The Familia was also rebranded as the Ford Laser and Ford Meteor in Asia, Oceania, Southern Africa, some Latin American countries and, from 1991, as the Ford Escort and Mercury Tracer in North America. In Europe, all Familias sold after 1977 were called "323". In North America, the 1200 was replaced by the Mazda GLC, with newer models becoming "323" and "Protegé". A more interesting development though is the incorporation of scaled rear centre sizing, with each frame size receiving a specific rear centre length. Of course the Santa Cruz Megatower gets slacker, longer and steeper in all the places you’d expect - no surprises there. Included with the bike is a tool roll and tube wrap to keep your spares handy inside the downtube, reducing the need to ride with a backpack. Positioned above the shock mount, the Glovebox is concealed by a plastic hatch beneath the bottle cage. The Santa Cruz Megatower also sees the introduction of in-frame storage, which is a first for Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz adds downtube storage via the Glovebox, allowing you to carry more spares inside the frame rather than on your back. Given we found the original Megatower to be quite a firm ride, we’re curious to see how the changes play out on the trail. It uses a longer 62.5mm stroke however, which provides the increased travel and a lower leverage rate for a supposedly more damped feel overall. The shock still sits low down the frame where it’s driven by the lower linkage and a sealed bearing eyelet. The new bike does see a slight lift in travel though, with a 170mm fork and 165mm at the rear via the VPP suspension platform. Sitting in between the Hightower and the V-10, the Santa Cruz Megatower retains its position in the lineup as the Californian brand’s flagship enduro race bike. The Santa Cruz Megatower V2 has arrived, featuring an all-new carbon chassis with concealed storage and updated suspension kinematics. Building off the success of the original model, Santa Cruz is now ready to release the second generation Megatower that features more travel, updated geometry and for the first time ever for Santa Cruz, in-frame storage. Mick rode the Megatower at the Wairoa Gorge mountain bike park in New Zealand as part of the official press launch, where he got to grips with the bike’s insatiable appetite for steep and high-speed descents, along with its firm and very much race-focussed suspension. First introduced in 2019, the Santa Cruz Megatower entered the lineup as a long travel enduro race bike, purpose-built around 29in wheels. ![]() It will only add to the safety of pulling your trailer.Ĭheck out our other article, “ How much can your vehicle tow?“ Proper W eight Distribution Some people think that if you have a weight-distribution kit on your vehicle and trailer that this will increase your towing capacity. Most people find it easy to distinguish between absorption and reflection of sound, but there is often confusion between diffraction and refraction (and possibly diffusion, the subject of the next chapter). Diffraction is changing the direction of travel of sound by encountering sharp edges and physical obstructions (chapter 11). Piano tuners make use of this effect, adjusting the tone of a string against that of a standard tuning fork until beats can no longer be heard.Refraction changes the direction of travel of the sound by differences in the velocity of propagation. Interference between two waves of nearly but not quite equal frequencies produces a tone of alternately increasing and decreasing intensity, because the two waves continually fall in and out of phase. This is done by arranging the reflecting surfaces in such a way that the level of sound is actually increased in the area in which the audience sits. On the other hand, interference can improve an auditorium's acoustical qualities. Such interference can be reduced by use of sound-absorbing materials on reflecting surfaces. In auditoriums, destructive interference between sound from the stage and sound reflected from other parts of the hall can create dead spots in which both volume and clarity of sound are poor. The interaction between the two waves produces a resultant wave. When they are out of phase, so that the compressions of one coincide with the rarefactions of the other, they tend to weaken or even cancel each other (destructive interference). When the waves are in phase so that their compressions and rarefactions coincide, they reinforce each other (constructive interference). For sound waves the phenomenon is perhaps best understood by thinking in terms of the compressions and rarefactions of the two waves as they arrive at some point. Whenever waves interact, interference occurs. Sonar is an artificial form of echolocation. A bat can unerringly locate and catch even a mosquito in total darkness. Sounds with short wavelengths are reflected even from very small objects. Bats and toothed whales emit bursts of sound of frequencies far beyond the upper limits of human hearing, as high as 200,000 Hz in the case of whales. The reflection of sound is used by some animals, notably bats and toothed whales, for echolocation-locating, and in some cases identifying, objects through the sense of hearing rather than the sense of sight. All these sound-absorbing materials are porous sound waves entering the tiny air-filled spaces bounce around in them until their energy is spent. Clothing also absorbs sound for this reason reverberation is greater in an empty hall than in one filled with people. ![]() Such problems can usually be corrected by covering reflecting surfaces with sound-absorbing materials such as draperies or acoustical tile. In a poorly designed hall, a speaker's first word may reverberate (echo repeatedly) for several seconds, so that the listeners may hear all the words of a sentence echoing at the same time. The reflection of sound can pose a serious problem in concert halls and auditoriums. (Statuary Hall of the United States Capitol is an example.) Reflection is also used to focus sound in a megaphone and when calling through cupped hands. ![]() It also accounts for the effects of so-called whispering galleries, rooms in which a word whispered at one point can be heard distinctly at some other point fairly far away, though it cannot be heard anywhere else in the room. This fact makes it possible to focus sound by means of curved reflecting surfaces in the same way that curved mirrors can be used to focus light. Sound is reflected from a surface at the same angle at which it strikes the surface. When the reflected sound is heard separately, it is called an echo. Most of the time the reflected sound is not noticed, because two identical sounds that reach the human ear less than 1/15 of a second apart cannot be distinguished as separate sounds. Sound is constantly being reflected off many different surfaces. ![]() We love defense games and made this game with a lot of passion and focus on details. ![]() Although known for being one of the prominent Color Field painters, Still's hot bursts and crackly lines of vivid hues that conjure tears and gashes were distinct from say Rothko's more simplified washes of color, or Newman's thin lines. This marked his own shift into Abstract Expressionism as a non-objective painter interested in juxtaposing different colors and surfaces into a variety of formations. By the mid 1940s his work began to change with the appearances of dashes and jags of colored lines atop his paintings. In the early 1940s Clyfford Still, like many other artists of the time, was primarily a representational painter, evoking moody dark scenes in somber colors. Although the movement has been largely depicted throughout historical documentation as one belonging to the paint-splattered, heroic male artist, there were several important female Abstract Expressionists that arose out of New York and San Francisco during the 1940s and '50s who now receive credit as elemental members of the canon.Their art was championed for being emphatically American in spirit - monumental in scale, romantic in mood, and expressive of a rugged individual freedom. Having matured as artists at a time when America suffered economically and felt culturally isolated and provincial, the Abstract Expressionists were later welcomed as the first authentically American avant-garde.Few would maintain their earlier radical political views, but many continued to adopt the posture of outspoken avant-gardists. They were influenced by the era's leftist politics, and came to value an art grounded in personal experience. Most of the artists associated with Abstract Expressionism matured in the 1930s. ![]() It encouraged their interest in myth and archetypal symbols and it shaped their understanding of painting itself as a struggle between self-expression and the chaos of the subconscious.
